What is GEMS and how does it help in energy monitoring?
GEMS (Green Energy Monitoring System) is a cloud-based platform designed to help track, visualize, and manage energy consumption. It enables facility managers, building owners, and tenants to make informed decisions that reduce energy waste, improve operational efficiency, and lower energy costs.
Who should use GEMS?
GEMS is ideal for commercial and industrial facilities, multi-tenant buildings, and property owners who want real-time energy data, actionable insights, and automated reporting. It’s especially useful for those looking to reduce operational costs and improve sustainability.
How does GEMS support Green Mark certification requirements in Singapore?
GEMS is currently being enhanced to support Green Mark requirements, focusing specifically on electrical energy monitoring, which is a core aspect of the certification. While full Green Mark support tools are under development, the system already captures key energy data that will feed into compliance reports. These features will be available by the end of the year.
Can I just sign up for 1 meter to monitor the main?
Yes, you can. Whether it’s one meter or multiple, you’re welcome to start with just monitoring your main incoming supply. The same 3-year commitment applies to all installations.
Note: Whenever you’re ready, you can choose to add more meters later to expand your monitoring capabilities.
Does installation of the GEMS require my Building LEW’s approval?
Yes. Any electrical installation or modification must be approved by your Building’s Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW). At CSE, we also provide Installation LEW services. Contact us at GEMS@chengseng.com.sg to discuss how we can assist.
What if I wish to monitor every circuit in my DB?
Yes, we offer advanced meters that can monitor up to 4 x 3-Phase circuits or 12 x 1-Phase circuits within the same DB using a single device. This approach helps reduce the number of meters required, saving space and cost while still providing detailed circuit-level data.
Does GEMS help us move towards Greenplan 2030?
Yes, GEMS was created to help our customers reduce energy consumption and work toward achieving Singapore’s Greenplan 2030. By 2030, 80% of existing buildings must be Green Mark certified, and a monitoring platform like GEMS will play a key role in generating energy reports needed for certification. While GEMS focuses on energy-related aspects, Green Mark certification includes other requirements — please consult your Green Mark consultant for complete details.
Technical Questions
Can GEMS integrate with existing energy meters and sensors?
At this point in time, the GEMS platform is designed as a monitoring platform to help users build energy awareness and identify energy-saving opportunities. If you’re interested in integration with other systems or platforms, please email us your requirements at GEMS@chengseng.com.sg. We’ll need to understand your technical setup to evaluate feasibility.
Also, GEMS allows users to download reports in PDF, Excel, and CSV formats, which you can share with your analysts or import into your internal systems for further analysis or reporting.
What kinds of graphs and visualizations does GEMS offer?
GEMS offers a range of powerful visual tools:
– Line graphs for hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly trends
– Bar charts for easy comparisons
– Sankey diagrams to visualize energy flow
– Heat maps to identify usage patterns and anomalies
Note: We are constantly upgrading and improving the GEMS platform, so the available visualization tools may evolve over time.
Is it possible to monitor energy usage for individual tenants?
Yes. GEMS supports tenant-level metering and automated billing. Each tenant’s energy usage can be tracked separately, and the system can generate usage-based bills.
Note: This feature will be rolled out by the end of 2025.
Can I access GEMS from multiple devices or remotely?
Yes. GEMS is a cloud-based platform that is accessible from any internet-enabled device, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones — giving you real-time monitoring anytime, anywhere.
Does GEMS provide energy-saving recommendations?
Yes. GEMS analyzes your energy usage patterns and offers practical recommendations such as adjusting operating schedules, improving load distribution, or identifying inefficient equipment — all designed to help you reduce energy consumption.
Does your GEMS platform have 2FA?
Yes. Our GEMS platform has built-in two-factor authentication (2FA). Your administrator has the ability to enable or disable this security feature depending on your organization’s needs.
How long does GEMS keep the data?
GEMS retains your energy data for 1 year. You can download historical data in CSV or Excel formats at any time to archive it or integrate it into your own reports or systems.
Subscription & Customization
Does that mean I do not have to fork out initial cost to install the GEMS system?
Yes. Our simple pricing of $1.50 per meter per day includes:
– Meter hardware
– Transmitters and gateway
– Installation by our team
– Full access to the GEMS software
– All future upgrades (including upcoming Green Mark and tenant billing features)
Note: We require a 3-year commitment and upfront yearly payment based on the number of meters installed.
How is the payment to GEMS like?
GEMS is based on a minimum 3-year subscription model with upfront yearly payment. Contracts are renewed every 3 years to ensure continuity and long-term support.
I want to have a customized Dashboard for my company. How much does that cost?
